Located in the heart of Livingston, Almondvale Shopping Centre is the main
attraction for shoppers in West Lothian. Phase 1 opened in 1976. The shopping centre was fairly typical of the buildings
of its time with a grey exterior and a built over roof, which made the mall seem
quite dark inside. The tenants at that time were mostly small independedent
traders , most of whom provided low price goods and services. 20 years later, in 1996, phase 2 of the
development was opened. It was built with a glass roof to ensure maximum
daylight, and the units were larger to accommodate the changing needs of
tenants. Phase 1 was refurbished shortly afterwards, giving the mall a seamless
finish between phase 1 and phase 2. The shopping centre hosts over 120
High Street stores including : Accessorize, Boots, HMV,
Next, New Look, Watt Bros and Woolworths , plus a range of cafes, bars, a bingo
hall, a Lothian Shopmobility service and a shoppers crèche. The main
external feature of the centre is a large glass clock tower which overlooks the
centre and can be seem from miles around. The centre gives the town of
Livingston something to be proud off. almondvale-shopping.co.uk
