Livingston finally gets its very own Primark Store, after many years of customers asking for the company to locate a store in the town. The custom built store will be located to the east of the town centre on the site of the former West Lothian Council HQ. The land has recently been sold by West Lothian Council to Land Securities for around £3million. and construction will start as soon as the current West Lothian House is demolished, which is currently been carried out.

The Irish rooted discount clothing retailer has its head office based in Dublin, Ireland currently operates 198 stores all over the UK and Europe, with many more in the pipe line. The demand for the stores are ever increasing, especially through these tough economic times.

One of the aims of the new store is to increase footfall in the phase 1 area of the centre as more shoppers head to the "Elements" area of the The Centre and the Designer Outlet. This is turn will also help reduce the amount of vacant outlets and also make the area a more desirable location for retailers to locate too.

The purpose build Livingston store will increase the overall floor space of The Centre by 6.2% adding 60,000 Sq. ft. Using 7,000 sq. Ft of the existing units within the Centre to create a entrance way from phase one into the new unit.

The largest primark store in the world is located in Church Street, Liverpool with a total floor space of 84,000 sq ft over 5 floors. The new Livingston store with 67,000 Sq. ft over 4 floors it isn't far behind, making the Livingston store one of the largest in Scotland. The store is due to open in 2011 and will have a BREEAM rating for friendliness to the environment using such features like, A Rain water harvesting system.

Primark is known for selling clothes at the budget end of the market. The company's success is based on sourcing supply cheaply, making clothes with simple designs and fabrics, only making them in the most popular sizes, buying stock in huge bulks and varieties and not advertising.

Looks like it will be built in a kind of balancing style.

The dark brown of the original part of the shopping centre, but the size and shape with the environmental aspects of The Elements.

    I like it.

They have now started on the work for Primark, the former Panasonic, Unwins, Ramsdens and Brighthouse Stores are currently being boarded up, not sure if its for a temporary move in, or preparing to create a grander entrance to the Primark.

Four shops were moved or closed to allow new entrance to be made into new Primark store. Bit like ASDA has just now at the post office, have a friend who works in centre.
