Bellsquarry is a small area on the south of Livingston
next to Murieston. Like LivingstonVillage
and Livingston Station it became part of Livingston when
the town was built in 1962. But it still has a small village feel to it with
its old buildings and fields surrounding it. The Elm Tree Inn on the picture to
the right has been closed for a while but is soon to be reopened. The town is on
the old Edinburgh to Kilmarnock
road and in the 19th century the Elm Tree Inn was used for giving exhausted travellers
a drink. The name Bellsquarry comes from the local limestone quarry and the
owner Mr Bell.
